2019 – 2020

Our 2019 Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday 17th May at 7.30pm, in the D’Arcy Room, All Saints Church, Maldon (there is parking nearby in the White Horse Lane car park, accessed via Fambridge Road and White Horse Lane). After the formal part of the evening and an interval for refreshments, we look forward to a talk by Dr Anna Reynolds about her recent research on the books in the Library.

Our outing on Monday 24th June 2019 will give us the opportunity to explore the special collections of rare books held by the Albert Sloman Library at the University of Essex. These include The Samuel Harsnett (1561-1631) collection and the libraries of the Essex Society of Archaeology and History, and The Bibliographical Society. In the afternoon we will visit the nearby beautiful gardens created by Beth Chatto.

Heritage Open Day and ‘Tea in the Garden’ event on Saturday 14th September. Please join the Friends for coffee, tea and home-made cakes in the churchyard of the Plume building on the Saturday of the Heritage Weekend. The Plume Library will be open from 10am–4pm with an exhibition of books which will include a selection by women writers. If you would be willing to help with this event as a steward in the Library and/or with the teas or other stalls, please contact Sue on 01621 854056 or sueswaffin@gmail.com.

By popular demand we will host another Quiz evening in February 2020. This has been a very successful and enjoyable event in previous years. Confirmation of the date and a booking form will be provided in the November mailing.
