Planning your visit

Normal opening hours:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 2pm to 4pm
  • Saturday 10am to noon
We are closed on Easter Saturday and between Christmas and the beginning of March. At other times we might have pre-booked tours. Please contact us to check, if you are making a special visit on: info@thomasplumeslibrary.co.uk.
Researchers: identification is required and prior notification of at least one week may be required to view certain items. Please contact the Library Keeper for more information.
There is a charge of £40 for group visits, which must be booked  in advance.  Due to the nature of the building the maximum number of visitors at any one time is 10.  Large groups can be split and visits arranged to other places of interest nearby can be organised.
Please note that entrance is via a spiral stone staircase. Unfortunately, the building is not suitable for those with impaired mobility. Please note that there is a video tour of the Library available on the screen in the Maeldune Heritage Centre (on the ground floor of the building) for those who can’t manage the stairs.
